Sharing a Transformative Experience

18 students gathered on October 26, 2013 at Concordia University for the 4th Ambassador Engage Series conference. They spent the day learning about themselves, their place in the community, and how they could contribute to improve their community. The students developed ideas for community projects and are anxious to return on November 16 to continue the planning and apply leadership skills through the projects.

Here are a couple of examples of their feedback given at the end of the day.

From Christy Chen, senior of Sprague High School in Salem, OR:
Firstly, I would like to thank you and the other facilitators who dedicated so much of your time to plan this meeting.

The experience felt unique and exuberant. As a person who would rather sit in the audience than partake in main roles on stage, I opened up more and grew more confident. This conference was an eye-opener for many opportunities in life. It was a great chance to meet new people who are in the same boat as me and probably just as shy and introverted as me. Although there was a small amount of us compared to the size of the AAYLC Conference in May, this meeting was intimate and real, allowing all of us to be ourselves and original.
Not only will I enjoy the expansion of this organization, but many others will also benefit from the offers of AAYLC. The passion of the organization as well as those of the participants and facilitators can truly change the community and the lives of individuals. Thank you once again!

From Dillon Chase, also a senior of Sprague High School in Salem, OR:
The AEC was an absolutely wonderful experience. It was great fun to meet new people. The activities were very good and helpful to help find out more about ourselves along with what we all had a passion for and how we wanted to make an impact in our community. Its great to see that so many kids care about other youth and their own community. Today was a great experience that I feel many other kids should attend.
